What is an Error Fare?

Travel Glossary

An error fare is a flight price that was listed incorrectly. They can often be recognized by an abnormal price evaluation not following the trend in prices. Generally, the term is in reference to a flight price that’s abnormally discounted as opposed to raised.

There’s a few ways error fares can occur from central bank monetary policy impacting currency valuations to simple price input mistakes. More often than not though, these fares result when flight and price indexing systems and OTA’s communicate with one another incorrectly.

Error fares have becoming an increasingly hot topic as people want to capitalize on flights discounted sometimes up to 90% of their long term running average.
